Which are the best bridge cameras for portraiture photography?

I’m a photography beginner wanting to concentrate on portraiture and I’m currently looking for a good camera on which I can learn. I’m also on a low budget..
I have been using a compact digital so far and the results were disappointing

I use a Panasonic Lumix FZ7. It has good zoom capability, many shooting modes, and I love the Leica lens. But I still keep my compact Canon for snapshots.
