How much do I charge for senior portraits?

This is going to be my first time doing senior portraits. It’s for a friend of mine who is graduating from college. She wants to do some cap & gown photos of her, her and her mom, her and her sister, and all three of them. She doesn’t want to do anything in a studio and wants them to look cutesy and not posed.

How much should I charge her?
Also, got any location ideas?

What are some cute hairstyles for my senior portraits?

I was wondering if anybody knew any cute hairstyles that would look good for my senior portraits. I have a kinda round face. I probably will just straighten my hair and leave it down. I don’t know. My hair length is about more or less to my nipples. Curling it and leaving it down might make my face look rounder. Unless I clip it in a special way or do something to it. I was thinking of braiding half my hair to one side, and maybe curling it.. I don’t know. Anyways, any suggestions on senior portrait hair?
Well, straightening my hair would help it not become as round because it’d pull my face down more. I just was wondering what you guys had in mind for other styles since straight hair is very plain. Don’t get me wrong though, straight hair would look nice too.

Wear your hair as you normally wear it…if you don’t usually curl it, then DON’T curl it. You want to look like yourself!!! I have regreted so many school pictures before because of this…curling it, or pulling some of it back. It just didn’t look like me on any given day. Just make sure you have no frizziness or anything like that, and wear it just like always. You said you always wear it straight…well just curl the ENDS under to make them look polished, if you want a little style mixed in there. Same with makeup…don’t wear more than you usually wear. They will turn out very pretty, I’m sure. ; )

How much would or did you pay for senior portraits?

I am trying to start my own service for senior portraits in highschool. What is the price you paid for everything?

Realistically, you should charge between $100 and $500 for senior pictures in the vast majority of cases. People who want only a yearbook picture maybe a little less. People who want lots of extra large prints a bit more, but for the most part, that cost should cover your expenses times 3 or 4. I don’t charge a lot for sittings, but I take about twice as many shots as I should. I always make sure I have a lot of poses to choose from. Making it hard to choose sometimes means clients pick both. Not always. Its not any harder for me to upload a few extra photos and if it means they buy more, that’s just a bonus.

Be fair to your clients and yourself. I make sure I don’t sell myself to anyone as a bargain basement photographer. Even if I do charge less than the professional studios in the area, my clients use me because I do exceptional work. I know I charge more than the craigslist people around here.
